Rules

Hmm, where do we start...? Just like Grindleford Station Cafe, rules are necessary otherwise chaos ensues and before you know it we'll be visiting pubs, bistros and restaurants.

However, as rules are meant to be broken we've changed ours in to a few simple guiding principles:

  • Must provide a nourishing nibble & non-alcoholic drinks suitable for a light lunch or more
  • Preferably sell coffee or tea amongst other liquid refreshments
  • Must have seating, inside or out
  • Within driving distance of Martlesham for an extended lunch break (usually a Friday)
  • None of the above at the editors / drivers discretion
For completeness we also allow Guest Reviews from family or friends and places worthy of Note or Recommended from further afield.

What's in a name?

Tea room. Coffee shop. Café. Bistro. Snack bar. Pop-up… With so much overlap and confusion, nor apparent naming standard (the Food Standards Agency themselves group Restaurants/café/take-aways together) the guidelines rule.

Ratings

We are often asked what is the best place we've visited, but that all depends on what you want: a hearty full English breakfast; morning coffee; light lunch; afternoon tea; excellent service; lively ambiance; wifi; no wifi; papers; views; vfm; decadence; all of the above; or just a simple bacon buttie and a mug of tea...?

However, if you ask us nicely over a good cuppa and slab of cake we are likely to let slip some of our faves, and a few not so great.

We may add further info or links for ratings and other categories sometime in the future. Watch this space.
