In May 2000, the Landmark Trust held their first Open Doors
weekend. Having acquired a number of properties requiring more funds than
usual, and to promote its activities, it opened 30 properties to the general
public on May 20-21, free of charge. One of these was Freston Tower.
This merited a brief mention in the Ipswich Evening Star, as shown.
I was fortunate enough to go along on Saturday May 20, and took advantage of
this rare opportunity to see the inside of the Tower for the first time. Not
only that, but visitors were allowed on to the roof to admire the views over
the River Orwell!
