On Your Radio
Ever had that experience where you think you hear your name on the radio?
That happened to me when I switched on BBC Five Live on
Tuesday 28th September at 5:55pm to hear Clare McDonnell say this:
"Lots of people saying check out Ed Broom's website on the crinkle-crankle walls in Suffolk... I've had a look and they're beautiful... Absolutely stunning."
The presenters had been discussing "knowledge nuggets" -- your specialist area of knowledge -- and somebody (more than one?) had very kindly mentioned my own particular interest in Suffolk's serpentine walls. Huge thanks to whoever that was, by the way. Anyway, having quickly replayed the previous five minutes via BBC Sounds to check I wasn't losing my mind, I texted the show:
"Did I just hear my name on the wireless about crinke-crankle walls?"
At 6:15pm I had a call from an unknown number (not suspected spam for a change) who announced himself as a BBC producer, and would I like to come on the show to talk wavy walls? You betcha! Which bought me two minutes of fame on live national radio just before 7pm: here's the audio. Seems that I develop a lisp when under pressure.
To quote King Louie, I reached the top and had to stop. Oh, and pleased to
have said "fewer bricks" rather than "less bricks".
